How Two Auditors Are Helping to Create a Safer and Risk-Free Creditsafe

Let’s be honest, when we hear the word “audit,” it’s pretty rare for our heart rates to slow down. But what does that title actually entail? Who better to explain than our two new auditors, Aziz and Greeshma!

We had the pleasure of getting to know them, their work, and the impact it’s having across Creditsafe. Find out what a day in the life of an auditor is really like, learn about Aziz and Greesham’s backgrounds, and discover what they’d like you to know about their roles. Let’s dive in!

Meet Greeshma and Aziz: Two Paths to a Career in Auditing

At the heart of Creditsafe’s Governance, Risk, and Compliance team are Greeshma and Aziz, who entered their field from distinct backgrounds and perspectives.

Aziz, who specializes in finance and risk, joined Creditsafe after years of working as an auditor at Protiviti, a consulting firm in Dubai. Reflecting on his role, he says: “We’re here to help departments improve their controls. Our goal isn’t to catch mistakes, but to support teams in minimizing risks and following best practices.” He’s quick to emphasize that auditing is really about partnership, not policing!

After working as a developer for a while and earning her MBA in India, Greeshma decided to venture into the world of auditing. “I started as a software developer, but I soon realized I wanted to work in a field where my job isn’t redundant—where I can make a lasting impact. Auditing allowed me to combine my technical skills with my passion for problem-solving.” She went on to work for EY as an auditor before making the move to join Creditsafe.

What's It Like to Work as an Auditor?

Greeshma and Aziz are working on a variety of projects, with each bringing their own unique expertise to the table. Greeshma’s current focus includes authentication audits and identity and access management. She explains, “I love investigating—gathering evidence, documenting gaps, and helping teams make their systems more secure. It’s about making sure things work as intended, not just checking boxes.”

Aziz’s portfolio includes audits of the Project Management Office (PMO) and our intellectual property. He explains, “Once we identify risks and controls, we help teams take action. Internal audit is about supporting improvements and advocating for change where it’s needed.”

Their workload varies from day to day and may include holding discovery meetings with stakeholders, mapping and documenting processes and security controls, and testing to ensure they function as intended. They aim to close any gaps and promote changes that help other teams make progress toward their goals while ensuring compliance.

Both Aziz and Greesham agree that the Creditsafe culture makes their work meaningful. As Greesham notes, “People here value audits—they see us as allies. It’s refreshing to have calls where everyone is eager to collaborate.” As for Aziz, he adds, “The openness and diversity in the company create a welcoming atmosphere. It’s always rewarding to see our work making a difference.”

What Would You Like People to Know About Auditing?

Right off the bat, Aziz and Greeshma wanted us to know we shouldn’t be scared! They share a similar view on auditing: it’s really about putting out fires before they start and helping us innovate and stay out of trouble, rather than catching people in the act.

Aziz is keen to point out, “First of all, I’d love for people not to be afraid of us and to be very open with us when we come to talk to you, because I want them to understand that, as internal auditors, we’re here to help you do your job better. Meanwhile, Greeshma adds, ““You’re awesome; you’re knowledgeable, and you do your job well. We’re not looking at that… we’re checking whether your operations are in safe harbor or not.”

Their hope is that by working collaboratively, audits will also become opportunities for growth and improvement throughout the company, not just for compliance.

Overcoming Challenges and Building Connections

Of course, their work isn’t without its challenges. Greeshma recalls, “It can take time to find the right stakeholders, especially for new audits. But the team always helps me connect with the right people, and that makes all the difference.”

Aziz highlights the role of communication. “Our reports go to senior management. We often help teams get the support they need to prioritize important changes. Internal audit is as much about connecting people as it is about reviewing processes.”

Both Aziz and Greeshma have very kind things to say about their colleagues and the collaborative culture at Creditsafe, as well as their manager, Alex. Both wanted to express their gratitude for the autonomy and trust he has shown them, along with the time and attention he has devoted to ensuring they feel settled in Cardiff, at Creditsafe, and in their roles.

Paving the Way for Creditsafe’s SOC 2 Certification

One major area where Greeshma and Aziz’s work is making an impact is in our journey toward SOC 2’s enterprise-grade security standards. Greeshma’s audits of authentication, identity, and change management closely align with SOC 2’s trust service criteria. “We’re telling our customers that their data is safe in our system. That’s what SOC 2 is all about… Whatever report we generate here is for our clients, not for us. It’s not about our data; it’s about ensuring their data is safe in our systems.”

Aziz’s internal audits align with SOC 2 requirements, as he often identifies and mitigates risks early on, streamlines our compliance efforts, and prepares documentation that supports our SOC 2 compliance work. He notes, “We’re here to help you do your job better and make it easier by minimizing risks and recommending better controls.”

We need SOC 2 because we’re demonstrating to large companies that we’re a trustworthy partner. Likewise, we’re innovating to help our customers. By bridging innovation and risk, our security and compliance teams are helping us move forward without running into obstacles.
