Starting a new role can be exciting, nerve-wracking and full of first impressions. For Alex Marshall, joining Creditsafe has already brought a warm welcome, meaningful project work and a quick introduction to the social side of life here.

Alex recently joined our Product team as a Product Designer, and we asked him to share what drew him to Creditsafe, how his first few weeks have gone, and what has stood out to him so far.

Rather than telling Alex’s story for him, we’ve kept this article centred on his own reflections, with a few short introductions to guide you through the moments and themes he wanted to share.

✨ What inspired you to apply to your role at Creditsafe?

Before joining, Alex says one of the first things that stood out was the way Creditsafe presented itself online — not just as a business, but as a workplace with people, values and personality behind it.

“As I was applying, I was looking at the Creditsafe socials and just got a good feeling from what was being posted; there were posts celebrating employees, promoting charities, supporting initiatives like International Women’s Day, and openly discussing topics like career progression at the company. It all felt very human-first. When I came for my interview, I could tell that this wasn’t just corporate marketing, it was really built into the culture.”

🚀 How did you find the onboarding experience?

Those early impressions carried through into Alex’s first few weeks, where the structure of the onboarding process helped him settle in without feeling overwhelmed.

“The onboarding experience has been way above and beyond what I was expecting. Everyone I’ve met has been warm, welcoming, and helpful. I already feel so integrated into the team.”

“I’ve been surprised at how structured the onboarding process has been. There’s obviously a lot of information to cover in the first few weeks, but every meeting, introduction and tutorial has had its place. There was also consideration to make sure I wasn’t bombarded with everything in one go which I think really helped me to take in what I was learning.”

Alongside the introductions and training, Alex has also had the chance to learn by getting involved in real project work early on.

“I also started working on a large project earlier than expected (in a good way!). I always learn best by doing, so getting stuck in this early has really helped how quickly I’ve been able to integrate.”

😊 What has it been like working here and what are you enjoying?

Now that he’s getting stuck into day-to-day life in the Product team, Alex says he’s enjoying the variety of the work and collaborative way decisions are made.

“Working here is a lot of fun. I’m really enjoying the variety in my work; the different teams I get to work with and the different areas of the product I get to work on. I really like how much authority I’ve been given to make design decisions, but at the same time, how involved other people get. Product managers and developers sometimes push back and challenge me on my ideas, which is a great way to grow my skills.”

🛠️ What does a day in the life look like for you?

Much of Alex’s current work is focused on improving experiences in our key products while helping to create new tools and standards.

“I’m currently working on a complete redesign of the login and onboarding flows, so most of my day is spent designing screens and user journeys. One of my long-term projects is to build out our design system so I’m also working on designing new components for our library, and documenting them so that the rest of the product team can use them confidently and efficiently in their own designs.”

One of Alex's first projects was re-designing a product login portal to be more stylish and accessible to use.

💝 How are you finding the culture at Creditsafe? Does anything stand out?

Beyond the role itself, Alex says the culture has been one of the biggest positives so far!

“The culture is great! Everyone is so friendly and happy to help, and there’s a good emphasis put on wellbeing. There’s loads of content from HR to support us and regular seminars about managing our wellbeing. Mid-afternoon massages are certainly a nice treat!”

“I think there’s just a lot of respect for employees as actual people.”

🌟 What’s some of the highlights for you since you joined?

Alex also joined at the perfect time to experience the team outside of the usual working day, with a social already planned during his first week!

“I got lucky with my timing when I joined as there was a social already booked in for the week after I started. It was an evening of drinks and video games at NQ64 and a delivery of Franco Manca pizza – literally two of my favourite things to do in Cardiff. It was a great way to get to know my team outside of work but reaching the end credits* of Time Crisis with my boss was a definite highlight!”

🟥 Final thoughts

Alex’s first few weeks reflect a few of the things we’re proud of at Creditsafe: a welcoming team culture, structured support for new starters, opportunities to get involved in meaningful work, and an environment where people are encouraged to learn, collaborate and grow.
